Tim Fredel

Timothy Fredel was one of the first to see the tremendous efficiencies the Internet could bring in connecting biotech businesses, employees, and investors. In 1994, he and his partner/wife, Jennifer King, became digital pioneers driving the launch of BioSpace.com. Today, BioSpace, Inc. is recognized as the leading provider of Web-based solutions and the global hub for the life sciences industry. In 2003, he and his partner, Jennifer, shifted their focus from "life sciences" to "life." Their new business is a lifestyle media enterprise called Rugged Elegance. Through a series of high-end travel guides and online publications, The Rugged Elegance Inspiration Network, and RE: Change, the purpose of Rugged Elegance is to inspire healthy, adventuresome, soulful, and wise living.

Tim brings over a decade of computer networking, product development, strategic planning, marketing and investor experience to Thrive. After a number of years with International Paper and two years in business school, he held marketing and product management positions with Cray Research, Sun Microsystems, and Farallon Computing.

Prior to founding BioSpace.com in 1994, and Rugged Elegance in 2003, Tim founded Indigo Systems, a management consulting firm focused on applying Systems Dynamics and Systems Thinking to corporate strategy. Indigo Systems' clients included Apple Computer, Quantum Corporation, Pacific Gas & Electric and Federal Express.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth College and a Master of Science degree in Management from the Sloan School at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

As a kid, Tim dreamed of being an astronaut (thus, the name "BioSpace"), a meteorologist (Jennifer frequently catches him checking the Weather Channel), and a Green Bay Packer. One of his best dreams-come-true: hanging out in San Francisco with his two daughters, Jessica and Nicole.
