Bob and Dottie King founded Thrive Foundation for Youth in 1995. They involved their three children, and their spouses, in determining the focus: supporting the positive development of youth. The King’s daughter, Cynthia King-Guffey, became the first executive director, working with the family board to identify social scientists who were interested in exploring the nature of thriving in youth. As the research evolved, the foundation expanded its role in taking that research to practice.
In 2010, Thrive launched a new strategic plan and reorganized its staff and board to be independent of the family. Bob and Dottie King remain principal trustees of the foundation.
The founding King family encourages Thrive Foundation to stay relentlessly focused on its mission. The founders believe that being a part of this good work has transformed and blessed them beyond measure. |
